Joyful Spirit · Together across nations

Love in
action.

One Person at a Time.

We bring people together across borders to listen, serve, and meet practical needs with dignity, compassion, and joy.

WE SHINE • WE FLOW • WE GROW

Our heart

Love in action—not only in words.

Joyful Spirit Foundation exists to help people feel seen, supported, and strengthened through practical, community-led care—one person at a time.

We believe meaningful change does not always begin with something enormous. It can begin with listening, showing up, sharing a meal, meeting an urgent need, or helping someone take their next achievable step.

“Love is not only something we say. It is something we choose to do.”

A Circle of Care for Ifeanyichukwu

In Imo State, Nigeria, Joyful Spirit representative Ella visited Ifeanyichukwu and family to listen and help bring attention to the child’s ongoing needs.

The health concerns reported to Joyful Spirit include malaria, typhoid, high fevers at night, cold symptoms with difficulty breathing, and anaemia described as a shortage of blood. An inadequate diet was also reported, adding to concerns about the child’s nourishment and wellbeing.

The family’s need extends beyond a single visit. Long-term support is needed, with attention to medical care, adequate nutrition, and continued follow-up.

This story remains ongoing. By listening, staying connected, and identifying practical ways to help, Joyful Spirit seeks to build a circle of care around Ifeanyichukwu and family—one person at a time.

Kindness around the world

Small acts.
Shared humanity.

One home-cooked meal became a community lifeline

What happened

After eight-year-old Cassidy Strickland noticed someone searching the family’s bins for food, she and her mother, Linda, prepared meals and brought them to people staying in a nearby park. That first response grew into Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands, a volunteer-supported service providing food, essentials, outreach, and disaster assistance.

Why it mattered

They began with what they had, then built the relationships and readiness that allowed the community to respond through fires, floods, and rising living costs.

Joyful Spirit reflection: We do not need a complete plan before meeting one visible need. A respectful first step can become dependable care.

A bicycle shop became a place to belong

What happened

At Bikes and Stuff, donated bicycles are repaired with the people who will use them. The Friday workshop became a gathering place for Mauritanian asylum seekers—offering transportation, shared skills, friendship, and practical help with unfamiliar paperwork and systems.

Why it mattered

A useful object opened the door to mutual participation. New neighbors were not treated only as recipients; they brought knowledge, helped one another, and strengthened the community around them.

Joyful Spirit reflection: The most respectful help makes room for people’s abilities as well as their needs. Service becomes community when everyone has something to contribute.

Comfort, knitted one teddy at a time

What happened

Retired nurse and midwife Lesley Phillips knitted more than 1,000 Trauma Teddies® over six years. The handmade bears were distributed through hospitals, ambulances, emergency services, and the Royal Flying Doctor Service to comfort children during frightening or unfamiliar moments.

Why it mattered

Each teddy offered something simple but human: a soft, familiar object a child could hold while adults provided medical or emergency care.

Joyful Spirit reflection: Practical care can be quiet and handmade. When offered thoughtfully, a familiar comfort may help someone feel less alone.

A football tailgate grew into year-round care

What happened

Saints fans Allen Keller, Katherine Seals, and fellow volunteers began by sharing food after football tailgates. Wanting to offer more intentional care, they started preparing fresh meals and gathering water, hygiene supplies, clothing, and other essentials for people experiencing homelessness. The grassroots effort, #TailgateTogether, now serves throughout the year.

Why it mattered

Consistency matters when other parts of life are uncertain. Community members receiving support also help guide distribution, preserving agency and respect.

Joyful Spirit reflection: Generosity grows deeper when we ask not only, “What can we give?” but also, “How can we serve in a way that honors choice and dignity?”

The way we serve

Human first.
Always.

Every action begins with respect for the person, their story, and the wisdom already present in their community.
